La ragazza dei cavalli: racconto di una cura
What meaning can psychotherapy take on in the treatment of psychosis? The author attempts to answer this question by presenting us with a case he treated over eight years, which involved catastrophic and apocalyptic themes. With the onset of delusional episodes, the task involved understanding the alteration of temporality within the schizophrenia with the help of Massimo Fagioli’s Birth Theory. The interpretive activity of the psychiatrist was directed towards ighlighting the delusional perception and recreating vitality which was always threatened by the relational context.
Antipsychotic medication was hard to give up altogether but long periods without it were possible. In spite of the extreme difficulty of the situations presented the psychotherapeutic relationship remained the fundamental element in the treatment, able to impact significantly on the psychosis.
