Resilience in economy: is a new perspective possible?
Abstract
Unlike its first applications within the scientific domains concerning research on ecology and engineering, where the term resilience is clearly and unambiguously defined, the concept of resilience appears to be quite evanescent and vague when applied to economic sciences. With their article, the authors aim at partaking in the current economic debate by providing an overview of the different meanings of economic resilience. To do so, they try to identify the main theoretical implications of the relevant studies and the issues linked to measurement techniques and variables. The authors end the article by analyzing how economic policies can impact on economic resilience, starting from the fundamental difference between needs and requirements put forth by Massimo Fagioli.
